Thieves are apparently targeting the homes of South Asian families in various states for gold.
To switch geographies, it amazes me to go to Kerala and see how much hype and popularity there is over gold jewelry (even today still, despite the escalating price of gold).
Here’s a taste for some popular gold shops in Kerala:
Alukkas
Alapatt
Bhima

Leaving Thiruvananthapuram via an overnight, 11-hour bus. Expect to be in Wayanad tomorrow.
A dream or nightmare?

What an appropriate subtitle for this blog! That pretty much sums up how I’m feeling at this point in India. I can’t get out of my head a particular incident I had recently: on a bus to Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, a bus conductor tried to cheat me twenty rupees. Long story short, [...]

(People don’t usually keep cats or any animals in [...]

And it is hot. Had forgotten about the need to be aggressive in queues. Had idli sambar for breakfast. Looking forward to reaching Trivandrum this evening.
Feeling sad about leaving…America

The fact that I’ll be moving to India in about two weeks hit me today as I realized how much sorting and packing I have to do.
We just returned from a fun trip to Yosemite, where we snowshoe-d, camped, and drank lots of good local beer –a last California hurrah before leaving for the summer. [...]
Orkut???

I guess I’m behind in the times. It was only during my recent trip to India that I was introduced to Orkut, apparently the most popular networking site in India (and Brazil). Move over Facebook and MySpace.
Apparently older people are a fan –I’m now friends with my older relatives and parents’ friends. [...]
